Megan + Max | Madison Museum of Contemporary Arts Rooftop Wedding

Megan and Max’s wedding felt like a love letter to downtown Madison. a gentle wander through some of its most iconic spots. They began with a ceremony on the steps of the Wisconsin State Capitol, shared a cozy cocktail hour with family at Botanist Social, and ended the night high above State Street at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. As Madison wedding photographers, we’re always thrilled when our couples embrace the charm of the city.

The day started at the AC Hotel, only a block from where they would soon exchange vows. Megan and her mom made the short walk together, while Max waited on the Capitol steps surrounded by their closest people. Their first look was tender and emotional, and moments later they walked hand in hand down the aisle to meet everyone who had gathered for them.

Their ceremony was short and heartfelt, framed by the rich colors of autumn and the grand architecture of the Capitol. Afterward, we lingered on the grounds to give them a few quiet minutes together, and to capture portraits that felt just as warm and intimate as the moment.

Before the celebration continued, we slipped into Botanist Social, an intimate cocktail bar with soft light, moody tones, and the perfect romantic atmosphere. Their families gathered close, sharing quiet conversations and happy tears while Megan and Max signed their marriage certificate at the end of the bar. Tucked between the Capitol and MMoCA on State Street, it was a beautiful, heartfelt pause before the rooftop festivities began.

With drinks and appetizers enjoyed, we made our way to the top of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, where their guests were ready to kick off the evening. Perched above State Street with sweeping Capitol views, the rooftop garden glows at night with native plants, modern sculptures, the Orpheum sign shining across the way, and the Capitol lit up in the distance. Below, the city sparkled as the celebration carried on. As the music started, Megan and Max shared their first dance under the warm rooftop lights, followed by heartfelt toasts from friends and family. Soon the dance floor filled, laughter carried through the night, and the rooftop came alive with everyone celebrating beneath the open sky.

It was a night none of us will forget.
